You like to journal. You probably already have a journaling habit. You know how to journal.
So why do you need this list?
To shake things up. Try things you’ve never tried before. Think of things you’ve never tried before. Or thought before. Get some new ideas or inspiration.
Hope this helps. And you’re welcome.
When you should (or could) journal:
- Early in the morning, right when you get up.
- Later in the morning, right when you get up.
- While you’re eating breakfast. (Just keep your food and coffee away from your journal.)
- At the beginning of your workday.
- When you’re taking a break. (From work or other things.)
- When you’re at work. (Just make sure you have a great excuse if you get caught.)
- At lunch. (See number 3, but replace coffee with soda or sparkling water or milk. Whatever wets your whistle.)
- In the afternoon.
- Right before your nap.
- Right after your nap.
- At the end of your workday.
- Right before dinner.
- While you’re cooking. (Just keep the paper well away from hot surfaces. And liquids. And raw meat.)
- While you’re eating dinner. (See number 3. But replace coffee with something stronger.)
- Right after dinner.
- In the bath.
- In the shower. (You may want to invest in stone paper. It’s a thing.)
- When you’re eating chocolate.
- When you’re drinking a glass of wine. (Or the beverage of your choice.)
- When you’re in the bath eating chocolate.
- When you’re in the bath eating chocolate and sipping wine. (Juggling might be required.)
- When you have some alone time. (Amount of time may vary significantly.)
- After you’ve kissed someone (your significant other, kids, pets, etc.) goodnight.
- Right before bed.
- Under the covers with a flashlight.
Now that we’ve basically covered the entire day, there are other times when you may want to pick up a journal and start writing, doodling, or whatever you do. More? Yep.
Other times when you should (or could) journal:
26. When you’re going through a great time. You want to remember it!
27. When you’re going through a tough time. You want to learn from it.
28. When you’re going through a life change. It might help you adjust.
29. When you’re pregnant. You’ll want to remember every single moment. (Maybe.)
30. When you’re newly married or newly single. (The adjusting thing again.)
31. When you’ve been married a long time or single a long time. (Hey … we all need coping mechanisms!)
32. When you’ve lost a loved one.
33. When you’ve found a loved one. (Rekindled an old love/friendship.)
34. When a loved one (significant other, kid, pet, etc.) is driving you nuts.
35. When your students/coworkers/boss is driving you nuts.
36. When you feel like you’re at the end of your rope.
37. When you feel like the walls are closing in on you. (Remember 2020/21?)
38. When you feel like the light has gone out.
39. When you feel overwhelmed.
40. When you feel lost.
41. When you’re at the doctor/dentist. (Waiting rooms, right?)
42. When you’re waiting to renew your driver’s license.
43. When you’re waiting in line at Starbucks. (However, writing while standing can be a challenge – no lap to write on.)
44. When you want to say something you know you shouldn’t. (You might want to destroy that journal page after you’ve written it.)
45. When you should be doing something else. (Not recommended, but you could.)
Okay. I said 50, but we’re stopping here. 45’s enough, right? You want the even 50? That’s fair. After all, that’s the title.
Why don’t you come up with the last 5?
46.
47.
